RCOA Students Shine at International History Bowl Provincial Tournament

On April 5, six RCOA students participated in this year’s International History Bowl provincial tournament held at UBC. The team put their knowledge and teamwork to the test in a series of challenging rounds and achieved an impressive overall score that qualified them for the National competition! Congratulations!

Throughout the school year, the team met every Monday on Zoom, studying and bonding over their shared passion for historical knowledge. If you have a child in Grades 6-10 who is passionate about history and would love to join the 2025-26 club contact RCOA teacher Victoria Laye (vlaye@rcoa.ca) for more information.

Young Hearts Make an Impact

Some of our Abbotsford & Langley Grade 6/7 PIE students truly embodied what it means to be global citizens as they took part in a class Walk for Water. With every step, they stood in solidarity with children in Uganda who must walk long distances daily just to access clean water.

Thanks to their hard work, our group raised over $2,200! The funds will be a part of Acts For Water’s current Kasese project, including gravity fed water system refurbishment and sanitation training. Currently, only 7% of the population practice safe hand-washing. 42% suffer from consistent waterborne disease and over 70% walk more than 30 minutes for water from contaminated sources.

Some students shared that the walk wasn’t as difficult as they expected. That insight is powerful — for us, it was just a few kilometers, but for many children around the world, it’s a difficult daily journey. The difference? Our walk brings hope and helps provide something that is missing.

Our students didn’t just walk! These young changemakers came up with some creative ways to contribute by:

  • Hosting bake sales
  • Organizing raffles
  • Collecting cans
  • Doing extra chores
  • And even selling their beloved Hot Wheels!

This is what compassion in action looks like. We’re proud of our students for their creativity and commitment to being part of a solution to a big problem, and we’re equally grateful to the parents who supported them every step of the way with their projects.

Student Achievement in National Youth Remembrance Contest

Several students from our school participated in this year’s National Youth Remembrance Contest, organized by the Legion National Foundation in partnership with The Royal Canadian Legion. Submissions in the literary category were first judged at the regional level before advancing to the provincial competition.

We are proud to congratulate Viena Milley, a Grade 11 student, who achieved first place in the province for her outstanding poetry submission. Congratulations, Viena!! You can read Viena’s poem here.

Students at LCC & SCC Host Business Fair to Support Woven International

Students at our Langley and Surrey Community Clubs wrapped up their entrepreneurship-focused term by hosting a vibrant Business Fair. They launched their own businesses, selling everything from cookies and handmade toys to original books—and one group even created a carnival!

Together, both locations raised an impressive $576 in support of Woven International’s ministry. So thankful that the students could use their talents to make a difference for the kingdom of God!

Rocket Launch

The Abbotsford Project X class blasted off into hands-on learning by designing and launching their own solid fuel rockets at a thrilling family event on April 26! All rockets soared successfully, although only one parachute deployed as planned, adding an extra dose of suspense to an already explosive afternoon!
