PROJECT X: Grade 8 – 12

PROJECT X:  An ADST (Applied Design, Skills and Technology) Course Grade 8 – 12

What is PROJECT X?  X is a variable in mathematics used to represent some unknown value, in this case the project has yet to be determined.  Next year’s project could be a clean water project in Africa, or an electric car to transport people to church.  It could be social justice work, or a food truck restaurant. We will not know until the idea is chosen by the students. The X is also a representation of the cross and acknowledges that every undertaking should be Christ Centered.

And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. – Colossians 3:16

Students will collectively have access to $500 budget to prototype, build, and share their project. Successful applicants will be required to attend 10 Project X board meetings at RCOA Surrey office (15100 66A Ave) on the first Monday of each month Sept.-June (Holiday weeks default to the second week of the month). Between meetings students will be working both collaboratively and independently to complete the project voted on by group members.  I (Mr. Willie) will be acting as chairman of the board overseeing this experimental for-credit ADST course. Students wishing to participate are required to submit an application form with a project idea and resume of experience.  I will be selecting individuals to generate a well-balanced team of cooperative individuals.

Students can apply to 1 of 6 positions:

Chief Builder: In charge of building physical aspects of the project. Must have experience with a range of building projects.

Computer Technologist: In charge of IT support for the group and will make computer related recommendations.

Artistic Director: In charge of any artistic aspect of the project including branding and esthetics.

Public Relations Coordinator: In charge of promotions, fund raising, and advertising.

Secretary/Treasurer: In charge of meeting notes, record keeping, forms, applications and fund distribution.

Design Lead: Has some proficiency in all areas, ensures individuals complete assigned tasks, and co-ordinates the group efforts.

A maximum of six (6) students will be chosen to participate on the PROJECT X board, however all RCOA students may participate in project tasks as needed.  All board members will automatically receive an ADST course credit (grade 8-12 depending on applicant).

We don't take it lightly that you reached out to us.  We will keep your name on the waitlist in case there are some withdrawals, but we recommend that you seek other arrangements for your Fall programming.
