Partners-in-Education Highlight: Duncan

Duncan PIE is blessed with 27 students each week: one primary class and one intermediate class.  We have had a fantastic school year, so far.

The first term, we explored the theme of Oceans, engaging in a boat building STEM activity, a field trip to the Cowichan Bay Estuary Centre, as well as the privilege of having a guest speaker, a commercial fisherman, come to our class to share his work and passion of ocean life.

As we are now part way through term 2, we have begun a Dr. Seuss unit and we are also focusing on physics. Dr. Seuss is a favourite author among children and has provided us with many creative writing projects.  The intermediate class is in the process of writing their own children’s books and the primary class has participated in shorter story writing activities while using Dr. Seuss as inspiration.

In physics, we have been exploring force, motion, friction and simple machines and we are looking forward to an upcoming field trip.  We are excited what the rest of the school year has in store for our learners at Duncan PIE.
